1 Facial Acne Scar Treatment

Facial acne scars are a sad reminder of having suffered a breakout or even severe cases of acne previously. They are intolerable because of their seeming permanence and their non-complimentary appearance. Generally speaking, facial acne scar treatment is rather difficult, but tissue regeneration and resurfacing is not impossible these days with all the amazing advancements in types of treatments. Facial acne scar treatment can be achieved by cosmetic surgery and, sometimes, even with over-the counter products as well.

In general terms, when referring to skin tissue scarred by acne, we are talking about the healed lesions caused by a previous breakout of oily, blocked pores. Whilst most rough tissue is temporary and disappears naturally over time, some scars from the more severe forms of acne can be permanent, which is when you may want to turn to treatments for facial acne scarring.

Serious scarring may be prevented if the sufferer visits a dermatologist when the damage to the skin is in an early stage, especially if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin's surface. If the bouts of acne have already scarred your skin, you will have to approach the issue from another perspective, which usually involves delicate deep skin cosmetic surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one possible way of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the organic regrowth of the skin tissue beneath. This procedure of scar treatment involves the use of local anaesthesia and can take between a few minutes and an hour depending on the extent of the damage.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent methods of eliminating facial scarring. It involves surgical intervention at deep skin levels. This treatment of scarred tissue on areas of sensitive skin is superior to both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and involves a much reduced healing period too. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy remains within the reach of only those few fortunate people, who can afford it, since it is the most expensive treatment for acne scarring available so far.

It can be that several facial scar treatment sessions are required to improve the condition of the upper layers of skin, if there are red or brown marks, before they can start the deep level treatment of the facial scarring. The doctor may inject collagen into the scars in order to raise the normal skin level or he/she may suggest micro-dermabrasion for the same reason.

Trying to perform chemical surface tissue peels for the treatment of scarring at home is a bad idea due to the risk of aggravating the condition. You could just make the scarring look even worse.

As for the types of acne scars, they can be grouped by the way they look and facial acne scar treatment varies accordingly. Scars can result because of an increase of tissue or because of a loss of tissue, but they both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. A specialist’s evaluation of the nature of the scars is an extremely important factor in deciding on the selection of one kind of facial acne scar treatment or another.

1 Herbal Remedies for Acne

The problem with acne is that there is nothing much you can do to stop it, because most often it is a reaction to hormonal changes in your body as you become an adult. Having said that, there are ways you can alleviate the symptoms. You will find many suggestions elsewhere in this book, but here I want to discuss herbal remedies for acne.

Most people rush to the pharmacy to buy the latest chemical treatments and spend lots of money on them, but really, they should be going to the health shop or the greengrocer's because there are plenty of herbal remedies for acne as well as cures that can be made from fresh fruits and vegetables.

First, you should understand what acne is: it is a blockage of the sebum oil ducts which then become infected with bacteria. So, while you cannot stop acne happening, you can clear away the excess oil and make sure that bacteria cannot survive on your skin for long.

First you should try to cleanse your body from the inside out by eating good healthy fresh fruit and vegetables and cutting down on fats and oils and anything that contains them, for this part of your life. You should also drink plenty of water to try to flush the oils out. Green tea is good too.

Tea tree oil and lavender oil are naturally antiseptic and can be used for cleaning the affected area even though they are oils. They come in different strengths and may need to be diluted with a neutral oil like peach, so ask advice in the health shop when you buy them. They can also be used for pimples.

Aloe vera is a plant that can be rubbed directly onto the affected area as often as you like. It has an incredibly soothing effect. Just snap the thick leaf, peal back a bit of the skin of the plant and rub the jelly inside onto your skin. Once you have tried fresh aloe vera, you will never be tempted to use it from a jar again.

Lemon juice is an antiseptic and very soothing. Squeeze the juice from a lemon and wash your face with the undiluted juice on a wad of cotton wool. The lemon juice will not only kill acne bacteria but it will pick up the excess oil too. Ordinary vinegar has a similar effect.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Witch Hazel both make good washes, are cheaper than shop-bought cures and just as good. Again, be careful with the strengths (concentrations) of these items as they may need watering down, especially the peroxide.

There are many other home remedies for acne, most of which are just as good as expensive chemicals, just remember what the problem really is (oil and bacteria) and look for ways to treat them. Rosemary infused in hot water and left to cool is also antiseptic as is garlic, although you may not fancy that one.

If you want to try a face pack as part of your herbal remedies for acne treatment, smear some honey on your face and leave it there for as long as you like before washing it off in a warm, but not hot shower.

1 Acne in Adolescents

Acne is teenagers' biggest problem - it affects more than 17 million teenagers in the United States alone. However, as a medical condition, acne can be controlled - it is not serious, although it breaks the hearts of millions of teenagers around the world every day. This makes it more of an emotional problem than a physical one. After all, it is extremely unlikely that anyone has ever died from acne, yet nearly every teenager has been through it for the whole of time.
