Dear Reader

Before you lies the collection ofRussian romances (Some ofthe works included inthis collection were previously published separately in the author's own publications:Anthology of Russian Romances, Part IandAnthology of Russian Romances, Part II), reflecting the richness and depth ofthis unique genre, which has been an integral part ofRussian musical culture for over two centuries. The romance, blending poetry and music, has always been amirror ofthe soul resonating with passion, tenderness, and philosophical contemplation.

This edition brings together works bygreat Russian composers ofthe 19th and 20th centuries: from Mikhail Glinka, who laid the foundations ofthe genre, toGeorgy Sviridov, who endowed the romance with new harmonic complexity. Special attention is given tothe poetry ofPushkin, Lermontov, and Fet, which inspired composers tocreate melodies that have since become classics.

The Collection ofRussian Romancesfeatures25selected works for voice and piano, showcasing the evolution ofthe genre from the Romantic era toneo-romanticism.

You appeared before my sight,

Like afleeting phantoms omen,

Like pure beautys briefest light.

Through the gloom ofhopeless yearning

Midst lifes noisy, vain parade,

Long Iheard your voice returning,

Years rolled by. Rebellions thunder

Scattered visions once so bright.

Godless, songless, weepingonly

Life without love, withoutHim.

Then my soul awoke from slumber:

Ƞ ,

Once again you stood revealed,

Like that phantom sweet and somber,

Like pure beautys light unsealed.

Now my heart pounds with elation,
