(according to act of parliament), in which he made a great hit, he studied the part consisting of 20 lengths and as many pieces of music in 5 hours, this has been often cited as the most rapid act of study on record; played Old Weller in Moncrieff’s drama Sam Weller or the Pickwickians, July 1837; manager of Strand theatre 1841–5; made his debut in America at Burton’s theatre, New York 1854; stage manager of Laura Keene’s theatre, New York. d.
